Professional Live Stream Checklist: Network, Encoder and Backup
Prepare a reliable event with upload headroom, encoder checks, rehearsal and local recording.

Preparation begins before Go Live
YouTube recommends preparing the encoder in advance, previewing the signal in Live Control Room, testing the network and verifying local recordings. Reliable streaming is an operating plan, not only a camera setup.
Network and latency
Calculate upload capacity from primary and backup bitrates, then retain at least 20% headroom. Low latency supports interaction but reduces the playback buffer and can increase buffering.
A practical runbook
Configure the event two hours ahead and start the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. Monitor audio, video and bitrate stability, record locally and verify the archive before leaving.
